Alpine City of Science & EducationAlpine City of Science & Education
Davos is one of the most famous sports and holiday resort of the Alps. A less known fact is that Davos is also an important city for research and education.
Already in 1878 the Fridericianum – a kind of high school for students suffering from tuberculosis – was founded in Davos. Right after the turn of the century Carl Dorno – founder of today's Physic-Meteorological Observatory Davos and World Radiation Center – founded a first small research institute. These beginnings laid the foundation stone for Davos as science city (Wissensstadt.ch).
Davos is the location of four international renowned research institutes with lots of scientists from all over the world and therefore plays an important role in the international science society.
